Name: Saoirse Ceallach
Canon/OC: Dragon Age OC
Journal:sulena
Race: Elf
Nationality: born, Orlesian & Free Marcher; culturally, Free Marcher
Occupation: Enchanter, Kirkwall Circle, formerly; Saddest apostate and non-stabbing bard, currently
Mage or Non-Mage: Mage
Age: 28, born 30th of Haring
History(9:14) — Born in the Starkhaven alienage to an Orlesian mother and Free Marcher father. Her mother was a maid in service of a high ranking noble family while her father was a researcher and scholar.
(9:16 - 9:21) — Her mother dies in childbirth along with the baby shortly before her second birthday. Life isn't exactly easy after this but he continues his a job educating children and whoever would listen to his lessons, neighbors helping to raise Saoirse. Conditions do not dampen Saoirse's spirit and she manages to thrive, befriending other children easily.
(9:21 - 9:31) — At age seven her magic manifests when a lightning bolt nearly strikes a friend she was arguing with. She does not tell her father but cannot it hide it as it begins to manifest more and more with her emotions. When she sends a city guard slipping down the stairs after accidentally freezing them in fear, it all catches up to her. She was sent to the Circle not long after this moment. There's comfort and stability to be found in those walls once the sorrow passes and she takes well to her lessons.
( 9:31 - 9:37 ) — When the Starkhaven Circle burns down, Saoirse moves to the Kirkwall Circle like most of those in her Circle. It is not an easy life in the Gallows as both elf and mage and she turns to her faith even more in these dark times. She raises to the rank of Enchanter just before the destruction of Kirkwall's Chantry when her life goes from bad to much worse. Although she escapes the city, it is not without lasting scars both physically and mentally.
( 9:37 - 9:42 ) — Since the fall of the Circles, she has traveled through the Free Marches (to see her father) and back again to Orlais (to meet her mother's family) before simply going where her feet took her in a want to do good. Saoirse earned money in this time as a performer, singing songs she learned back in the alienage and playing instruments that she learned on the road. Ultimately, it is her want to help more that sends her toward Skyhold.
PersonalityTo say that safety and happiness is an important aspect of Saoirse's life is something of a major understatement. Despite the harsh life lead within the walls of Kirkwall's Circle she is, without a doubt, still kind. In a way she tries to be the bond that holds the those scared mages out in the world together and, above all, works to avoid any bloodshed. Despite death literally hanging over her head, she believes what she does is worth any danger and believes in doing the best for people with her power even if they fear her. She believe
Bright as the sun, Saoirse seems to be the ultimate embodiment of compassion and hope for the best. She is overly kind, friendly to everyone and tries so very hard to be a good person. Despite any setbacks or how rough things have been, she has remained kind, friendly and amazingly upbeat for someone with less than a year to live. Her outlook on life is extremely optimistic and, as both a mage and an elf, lives to be an inspiration to people. This also means being a good friend to her fellow mages despite where they stand on the Circle divide and even to former Templars that may wish for her blood.
The heartache that comes with being a young, especially one in such a vulnerable position, opens her up to be both naive and gullible of those that are out there to hurt her. After all, she is responsible and tries to follow the rules but this can lead to her not fully questioning for fear of stepping out of line. This tends to get her into trouble which can lead to friends and loved ones being hurt (or rather killed, much to her horror) in the process. It has led her to building up walls that might have been there before to protect both her and those in her care. She does not wish to hold doubt in her heart but she must protect those who rely on her.
Reassuring and cheerful there is a deep love that seems to expand boundlessly for each person that she meets. More than anything, she wants others to believe in her. She is here to bring light, to chase away the dark and hopefully save those that cannot help themselves. In the aftermath of the Circle's falling there is even more purpose in her actions and she believes in her ability to help bring the Circles back. In her own words, she cannot lose her faith now and fights to be the inspiration she believes she can be.
All in all, Saoirse is a positive force of nature who loves deeply and openly. She loves her friends, the Circles, the Chantry and almost everyone she meets. She wants the very best for everyone and with use her power to fight for it with determination and overwhelming kindness.
Opinions & AffiliationsCHANTRY — A very devout Andrastian. Saoirse believes very much in the teachings and in Andraste as both act a needed source of comfort for her during these harsh times. She prays often, volunteers to help, cooks and gives what money she can spare to help the needy. The Chantry also establised the Circles which gave her a more comfortable life away from the alienage.
CIRCLES — LOTS OF FEELINGS HERE. There are issues with the Circles currently, she knows how cruel they can be but she also understands that they can save lives too. The idea of them is not a bad one but things must change that hopefully help more than harm and reduce ripping families apart. They offer protection, food, a warm bed and lessons to help young mages understand their powers. Within the Fraternities she would be considered a Loyalist but leans more toward Aequitarian as well.
DALISH — Has not had the best experiences with their distance kin. She knows people who have died seeking help from the Dalish and experienced the harsh nature firsthand when attempting to seek help for those that nothing in the wake of events in recent years. That said, she HAS also had good experiences with the Dalish including one clan that accepted an orphaned baby. Yet she desperately wishes they could be closer.
MAGE - TEMPLAR WAR — What a terrible idea. She believes in the goodness of the Templars and what they can do but know that some have turned from their teachings. She will just as easily protect a Templar as she would a mage which has put her at odds in her travels before.
Strengths & WeaknessesSTRENGTHS — InventoryBARD: She isn't the stabbing sort of bard despite her specialization as a Bard but rather simply adores to sing and play for tavern goers looking for a brief moment of rest. That isn't to say she isn't good at listening out or paying attention to her surroundings but there simply isn't any sort of murder involved. Her status as an elf furthers to help her in these moments since most are likely to rather ignore her presence which makes gathering information (like troop movements, or bandit sightings) easier to gather. In battle, she makes use of her songs to strengthen her allies.MIDDLE GROUND —
MAGIC: Saoirse has been a part of the Circle for two decades now and gave herself to her studies in order to better herself. Her talents in magic allows her an affinity in Entropy and Primal spells with some talent in basic Arcane spells. Despite her kind nature, she does not hold much talent Creation spells and fumbles with most (if not all) Spirit spells.
SHADOW: As an elf, she is used to being ignored or sometimes not seen at all. Saoirse has employed this by honing her ability to slip by unnoticed to get around threatening situations. In battle, and as a mage, she uses these techniques to get her out of sight of oncoming enemies and to a safer distances so she can make the most of her magic.SUPPORTIVE: Without a doubt in the world, Saoirse is kind even to those that have spat at her or thrown unkind words at her. It is so terribly hard to get onto her bad side. She is patient, able to listen and offer understanding to those that need it. If asked, she would thrown in her assistance with no questions asked. Yet that kindness could also easily (and almost has at times) be the death of her as others could easily take advantage of it.WEAKNESSES —CONFIDENCE: Despite all that she has done in her life and since the fall of the Circles there is a part of Saoirse that is not confident in her skills. She hesitates at times with unsure thoughts if she can possibly do what she has set out to do. Although she usually breaks out of these spells there are times when they are terribly overwhelming and they eat at her confidence.
ELVEN MAGE: Being a mage is tough as is being an elf but both at the same time? It can be absolutely terrible. She can hide her status as a mage easily enough and she does not stand out like her Dalish cousin with their tattoos but there are some in the world that lock in on her ears alone and make themselves know. She has suffered through many threats, slurs and one black eye simply because of her ears.
IDEALIST: Saoirse wishes for the best for everyone. Although impossible for just one or even a handful to accomplish, she still fights for what is best no matter the hardships she burdens herself with in the process. These years have taken a toll on her but she does not stop and keep marching ever forward even if there are some nights when she collapses, crying in moments of weakness.— Robes and leathers, suited for winter travel.
— Heavy cloak, fur lined and very warm.
— Staff, basic but precious and kept close.
— Instruments including a lute, cittern, fiddle and tin whistle.
— A ram named Woolimina.
— Miscellaneous travel clothes, camping supplies and food stuffs tucked into the cart.
— A cart held by two horses carrying four refugees that have been affected by red lyrium.
MotivationSince the fall of the Circles, Saoirse has moved through varying countries to try and do some good which was sometimes easier said than done. She has come to the Inquisition mostly in hopes that they will know how to help the red lyrium affected refugees that she brings with her but also to join their services. SAMPLESone + two
